PITTSBURGH, PA – March 2, 2026 – In response to Senator Elizabeth Warren’s call to reduce LNG exports, MSC President Jim Welty released the following statement:

“While we are pleased to see Senator Warren and her colleagues finally recognize that domestically produced natural gas is a viable home heating option for their constituents, their concerns over price impacts due to LNG exports to our allies reek of hypocrisy.

“Make no mistake: the challenges faced by New England consumers due to high energy costs are directly attributable to the failed policies and actions of Senator Warren and her like-minded colleagues.

“For far too long, they have actively opposed efforts to safely transport natural gas produced just a few hundred miles away in Pennsylvania. Instead, they have favored importing their natural gas from foreign nations, including in at least one situation from Russia. They revert to burning fuel oil during times of peak winter demand while routinely skirting with deadly electrical blackouts – all in the name of ‘environmental progress’.

“The solution to this challenge is quite simple: empower the skilled trades men and women of our nation to safely construct and operate pipelines to transport low-cost Pennsylvania natural gas to our neighboring states, including New England.

“Since LNG exports from the United States began a decade ago, data has repeatedly demonstrated that such exports do not raise domestic natural gas prices. Former President Biden’s own study on the issue failed to identify impacts to prices and noted that Americans continued to benefit from ‘relatively stable natural gas prices domestically’ even as LNG exports increased. In fact, when LNG exports reached record highs in spring 2024, domestic natural gas prices were at a 30-year low.

“Supporting American allies abroad while meeting the energy needs of our citizens has never been more imperative. It is long past time for Senator Warren and her colleagues to stop playing politics and start lining up in support of American interests.”
