Pittsburgh, Pa. – October 2, 2026 – Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) president Jim Welty issued the following statement:

“The energy affordability and reliability challenges facing New England today didn’t emerge overnight. They are a direct result of politically motivated decisions to deny consumers in the region from accessing abundant and clean Pennsylvania natural gas. Years of misguided policy decisions prevented the development of the critical energy infrastructure needed to safely deliver that resource to consumers.

“Much of that pattern traces back to decisions made under then-Attorney General Healey, who openly celebrated stopping major natural gas pipeline projects that would have expanded access to affordable, reliable energy across the region. Today, New England households and businesses continue to face some of the nation’s highest energy costs. We do appreciate Governor Healey’s belated awakening to this reality.

“As energy demand continues to grow, it is imperative that Congress comes together to pass meaningful permitting reform that will help ensure infrastructure needed to support America’s energy and economic future can actually get built.”
