“Any action to halt U.S. LNG export approvals would be a major mistake that puts American jobs and allies at risk while undermining global climate goals.”

PITTSBURGH, PA – Following the release of a letter focused on commonsense liquified natural gas (LNG) permitting approvals signed by the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), along with several dozen energy industry partners, to U.S. energy secretary Jennifer Granholm and key members of President Biden’s administration, MSC president David Callahan issued this statement:

“Both developed and developing nations need American natural gas. Clean, abundant Pennsylvania natural gas can help our allies grow their economies and meet their environmental goals, and it strengthens our own national security by mitigating the influence of foreign nations that too often use their energy resources to leverage policies hostile to the U.S. While some activists continue to promote harmful policies that would weaken America’s clear energy, economic and environmental leadership and strength, our leaders in Washington must focus on commonsense regulatory reviews rather than politics.

“Pennsylvania is in the heart of  America’s largest and most prolific onshore natural gas field. The Commonwealth’s natural gas industry is helping to support tens of thousands of good-paying jobs along with billions in economic activity. Political pressure from extremist organizations and the harmful policies that they are recklessly advancing will leave America and our most critical allies more vulnerable from an energy security perspective, jeopardize job-creating investments the U.S. and risk global security.”
