Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) today announced that it will postpone its Transportation Safety Day and Flagger Training program, scheduled for Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in Mansfield, Pa., due to weather and safety concerns associated with Hurricane Sandy’s expected landfall along the east coast over the next several days.  Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett has declared a state of emergency across the Commonwealth due to the storm.  Those registered to attend Transportation Safety Day will be notified by the MSC as soon as possible regarding plans to reschedule the program.

“The safety of our workers and communities is the paramount value for our industry and a cornerstone of the Transportation Safety Day program,” said MSC President Kathryn Z. Klaber.  “With that in mind, our attention must turn first and foremost to environmental, health, and safety protections associated with our industry operations and the communities we call home.”

The postponement of Transportation Safety Day comes as the Pennsylvania natural gas industry takes the steps necessary to secure active sites, manage water issues, and remove equipment from areas that may experience flooding due to the storms.
