After a well is completed, operators are required by law to reclaim the well site within 90 days. Once a well is “in production,” meaning that it is producing gas to a pipeline for end use, it is monitored by the well’s owner remotely (24 hours a day, every day) along with daily inspections by a well-tender. The Pa. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) also does periodic inspections of production wells.
