Domestically produced natural gas is a clean-burning energy resource that must be developed in an environmentally responsible manner, as the Marcellus Shale Coalition’s Guiding Principles outline. Individual landowners, including school districts, make a decision about whether or not to lease their land for responsible energy development, which in Pennsylvania is governed by regulations from the Department of Environmental Protection, including how close to water resources and other structures drilling activities are permitted to take place.
