PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Ahead of the President’s Pittsburgh visit, Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) president David Callahan issued the following statement encouraging the White House and Congress to recognize the key role of domestic natural gas for U.S. national security interests as well as economic and environmental gains.

“Natural gas infrastructure is fundamental to ensuring good-paying, union jobs as well as continued global leadership on environmental improvements,” Callahan said. “Responsibly produced domestic natural gas provides the necessary baseload power that fuels every aspect of our economy, and we expect President Biden to recognize the importance of local and interstate natural gas pipelines, energy export terminals, and highly efficient, modern natural gas power plants in the broad infrastructure package.”

“Pennsylvanians understand the essential role of natural gas and support pragmatic, commonsense market-driven innovations over radical policies that will drive up energy costs, jeopardize grid reliability, and eliminate good-paying jobs,” Callahan continued. “As the President and Congress work toward a broad infrastructure package, let us be absolutely clear: natural gas is essential to our nation’s future prosperity and continued environmental progress.”
