A new Franklin & Marshall College poll released today found that a clear majority of Pennsylvania voters support the safe development of clean-burning American natural gas. Specifically, the F&M poll find that natural gas development in the Commonwealth is supported by a more than 2-to-1 margin. These poll results are in-line with others that demonstrate strong support for responsible job-creating shale production, which is bringing about positive economic and environmental opportunities for all.

  • A Franklin & Marshall public opinion poll released today shows 64 percent of Pennsylvanians have a favorable view of the natural gas industry. … G. Terry Madonna, who conducted the poll, said the survey of registered Pennsylvania voters shows a clear narrative: “They have a favorable view of the natural gas industry, and they understand its importance to the economy, but having said that… they also want to be sure it’s done in an environmentally safe way.”

And the shale industry is laser-focused on protecting and enhancing our environment, as laid out in our Guiding Principles. Regulators certainly understand this mission too. In fact today on MSNBC, EPA administrator Gina McCarthy said that safe shale development “has provided us an opportunity and a tremendous, inexpensive energy supply,” adding that natural gas is a net positive “from a greenhouse gas perspective.”

The Associated Press also reports this under the headline “Poll: Majority in Pa. support gas drilling”:

  • A significant majority of people in Pennsylvania support the boom in Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling, according to a new poll released Thursday. … The Franklin & Marshall College poll found that 64 percent of respondents somewhat or strongly favor the gas drilling industry. … Dave Spigelmyer, the president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, an industry group, said the results show a clear majority of Pennsylvanians “support responsible shale development.”
