Marcellus Shale natural gas production takes place in many communities across the commonwealth. But to answer your question directly, yes, the majority of Marcellus Shale development is taking place in rural communities. While not every county shaded in green has a Marcellus Shale natural gas well, geologists believe that the Marcellus is beneath these areas.
