A typical horizontal Marcellus Shale natural gas well requires between 3 and 5 million gallons of water to complete, or hydraulically fracture, depending on the length of the later and the wells depth. And thanks to new, innovative water management technologies – along with strong, common sense environmental regulations – more water is being reused and recycled across our industry’s operations. These technologies make environment and economic sense. In fact, the health of several key Pennsylvania rivers are strong – further demonstrating that natural gas development can, and must, be balanced with enhancing our environment.
