Natural gas has a number of positive both short- and long-term effects for our environment. In the short-term, natural gas development – which is a tightly-regulated process – does not pose a risk to our environment when carried out properly. In fact, once wells are drilled, completed and brought onto production, the site is reclaimed and restored. The MSC has also published a Recommended Practice on Site Planning, Development and Restoration focused on ensuring that groundwater and soil, and the environment generally, are protected.
