Tourism and safe, job-creating natural gas production can and must be balanced. Throughout the process of producing clean-burning natural gas, oil and natural gas companies have made decreasing their environmental impact a top priority. Best practices are in place – along with strong, common sense environmental regulations – to ensure land is properly restored.
As you may know, the safe development of clean-burning natural gas from the Marcellus Shale is creating a powerful and cascading economic impact across our region, especially in terms of job creation. In fact, according to the Pa. Department of Labor & Industry, more than 240,000 jobs in the Pennsylvania are supported by the natural gas industry. A significant portion of these jobs are along the natural gas industry’s robust supply chain. And more local jobs and revenue and more affordable supplies of homegrown energy is without question good for our entire economy, especially our tourism sector.
