MSC member companies and environmental regulators here in Pennsylvania are always looking for ways to improve the process and examine the various aspects of natural gas development. A few examples include regional air monitoring tests by DEP, a recently announced year-long study of NORM (naturally occurring radioactive material) and a white paper encouraging operators to utilize mine water in their operations – all studies the MSC supports. That being said, oil and natural gas development has a long and storied history in the commonwealth, so we’ve been at the tip of the spear when it comes to innovation and research. There are also a number of studies that have been published by the Federal government, academic institutions and consulting firms on topics ranging from water management, air quality and the economic impact of Marcellus Shale natural gas development. A compilation of that research can be found by clicking here.
