The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provides information on its website to assist the public in identifying well locations in each municipality. This year — as of Oct. 5, 2012 — 21 Marcellus Shale wells have been permitted and only one well has been drilled in Potter County (DEP 2012 overview, pg. 5). To date, there are 163 Marcellus Shale wells in Potter County. Visit DEP’s eFACTS (Environment, Facility, Application, Compliance Tracking System) database to view all well locations that have been permitted, including location and operator information. The site also provides data relates to various permits natural gas producers must obtain associated with production activities. Also, specific to Potter Co., the county recently received more than $554,500 in Marcellus Shale impact fee-related revenues.
