MSC Pleased to Announce David Spigelmyer as Organization’s New President

Pittsburgh, Pa. – After a two-month search process, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) announced today that David Spigelmyer has been named as the organization’s president. Mr. Spigelmyer, with a 30-year career in the energy industry, will assume the position effective Monday.

“While our industry has accomplished a great deal for the entire Commonwealth and for our nation over the past several years, big challenges remain on the horizon. And after undertaking an exhaustive executive search process, which included many highly-qualified candidates, it was clear to our board that Dave is the right individual at the right time to lead our organization,” said MSC chairman and CONSOL Energy COO of Gas Operations Randy Albert. “Dave is a proven leader with unquestionable character, passion and experience. We’re thrilled to have him in this role.”

“I am deeply honored to have this organization’s trust instilled in me and grateful for the talented team of professionals that we have in place at the MSC,” Spigelmyer said. “Safe shale development has been one of the most transformative turning points in our Commonwealth’s history. Led by Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry and a robust and diverse membership of the MSC, we can and will have energy security, job growth, and environmental protection – without a false choice among any of the three. It is our collective responsibility to make certain that we continue to get this historic opportunity right, now and for generations to come, and we will deliver this message to stakeholders at all levels in a positive and fact-based manner.”

Most recently, Mr. Spigelmyer served as Vice President of Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Appalachia division, where he was responsible for government relations, regulatory policy, stakeholder engagement and communications efforts. Prior to Chesapeake, he served in similar roles at EQT Corporation and Dominion Resources and held other energy industry-related positions in New York State as well as in Washington, DC. A Clearfield County native, Mr. Spigelmyer is a Penn State University graduate and an active outdoorsman.

“Dave is a tireless advocate for protecting our environment and safely developing clean-burning American natural gas,” said Vice President and General Manager of EOG Resources Gary Smith, who chaired the MSC’s search committee. “His pragmatism, results-oriented approach to advancing common goals, and proven command of Pennsylvania’s regulatory and legislative contours will serve our industry and all stakeholders well.”
