Water plays a central role in developing the Marcellus Shale. Without it, we simply couldn’t harvest this clean-burning, job-creating resource. In order to withdraw water from these rivers and the tributaries that feed them, a permit is required as is an approved water management plan from the Pa. Department of Environmental Protection. If these streams fall below pre-determined flow-rates or the region is experiencing drought conditions, water withdraw permits will be revoked until the conditions improve.
