We are sorry to hear you feel that way. Transparency is a key tenant of our organization’s mission, as outlined in the Marcellus Shale Coalition’s Guiding Principles. As an industry, we take great pride and have made great strides in increasing the amount of information industry shares with the public, specifically as it relates to the well completion technique called hydraulic fracturing.

The Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC), along with sister organizations like the Ohio Oil and Gas Association (OOGA), Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association (PIOGA), West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association (WVONGA), America’s Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA), Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) remain engaged in communities across the region and the country promoting operational transparency through community events, town hall meetings and other informational sessions that are designed to answer questions folks may have about oil and natural gas development. Our collective goal as an industry is to do our part to ensure concerns are addressed and our member companies are developing these energy resources with strict and effective regulatory oversight.

Another example of how the industry strives to be transparent is the use of FracFocus. FracFocus is a website developed by the Groundwater Protection Counsel that serves as a national clearinghouse for the chemical additives used in the hydraulic fracturing process. The public and view detailed information on a well-by-well basis should they be interested in learning more about well development activities in their community.
