Well site planning and development, including road construction related to oil and gas development, is regulated by numerous government agencies. Wetland crossing, stream crossing and erosion control permits are just a few of the permits and plans required to ensure that streams will not be adversely impacted by shale development. Verifying and mitigating potentially adverse impacts on threatened and endangered species, archeological and historical sites are also included in operators’ well permit applications. And further, the MSC’s Recommended Practice for Site Planning, Development and Restoration describes the work operators are doing to minimize environmental impacts.
