Hydraulic fracturing is a well-regulated and time-tested technology that creates porosity and permeability in densely packed shale formations, allowing economical amounts of natural gas to be produced. And thanks to advancements in horizontal drilling technologies – coupled with fracturing – the short-term aboveground footprint of this process is dramatically reduced while at the same time allowing companies to produce significantly more amounts of natural gas.

Today, in fact, as President Obama underscored in a recent speech “We produce more natural gas than any country on Earth.”
