Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry is a collection of skilled individuals that live, work and raise families here in the commonwealth. And while all businesses are in business to make a profit (if they didn’t make a profit, they wouldn’t be in business), the employees of the companies working to responsibly develop the Marcellus Shale are active in their communities and productive members of society.

Furthermore, the safe development of natural gas is critical for generating electricity, providing about 30 percent of America’s power, heating homes and offices and cooking meals. Natural gas and related natural gas liquids also serve as a feedstock and building block for fertilizer, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, waste treatment, food processing and other industrial processes. Expanded natural gas production is leading to significant consumer savings in the form of lower, more affordable energy costs. In short, the livelihood of most Americans is directly affected by natural gas.
