According to the Pennsylvania Department of Conversation and Natural Resources, “The Marcellus Shale is prevalent throughout much of the Appalachian basin and most of Pennsylvania, although its depth and thickness are variable.” And Penn State University researchers have this map of the formation, including the Marcellus Shale’s thickness across the region.
