Today, according to the state department of Labor & Industry, nearly 239,000 direct and indirect jobs across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania are supported by the natural gas industry. These are jobs that exist because we are producing Pennsylvania’s abundant natural gas resources. Nationally, according to IHS Global Insight researchers, in 2010, unconventional gas activity supported 1 million jobs; this will grow to nearly 1.5 million jobs in 2015 and to over 2.4 million in 2035. By 2035, according to IHS, 270,058 jobs in Pennsylvania will be supported by the natural gas industry.
