Continues Support for Pa. Farm Show Scholarship Foundation

Harrisburg, PA – This week, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) is participating in the 96th Annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, the premier agriculture event in the Commonwealth. The Farm Show provides an important opportunity for the natural gas industry to engage the agricultural community on issues and related to the continued development of the Marcellus Shale.

“Agriculture is a critical component of Pennsylvania’s growing economy, and farmers throughout the Commonwealth are important partners in the responsible development of clean-burning natural gas from the Marcellus Shale,” said MSC president Kathryn Klaber. “Well-informed landowners are among our strongest allies, which is why we are excited to be a part of this year’s Farm Show. Engaging the agricultural community is a critical component of our outreach efforts, and we are pleased to have our subject matter experts available at this event to answer questions, address concerns, and seek input from Pennsylvania’s proud agriculture community.

“In addition to the direct economic benefits from leasing their land – which has allowed many to hold on to their family farms and provides additional capital to make needed investments in new equipment – Pennsylvania’s 63,000 farming families also benefit from development of the Marcellus Shale through lower energy costs, stable fuel prices, and more affordable fertilizers.”

During an event this week, Klaber presented a $5,000 donation, on behalf of the MSC, to Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture George Greig for the Farm Show Scholarship Foundation. Since 1993, the foundation has awarded over 370 scholarships totaling nearly $1 million.

Added Klaber: “Pennsylvania’s farmers are and will continue to be a vital component of the Commonwealth’s economy. The Coalition is proud to support the scholarship foundation again this year which will help guarantee that future farmers in Pennsylvania are equipped with the knowledge and expertise necessary to keep agriculture a vibrant and growing industry.”
