CANONSBURG, Pa. – Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) president and executive director Kathryn Klaber issued the following statement today in commemoration and celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day:

“Earth Day presents us with an opportunity to celebrate our rich and beautiful planet, and renew our commitment to pursuing an environmental future in which clean air, safe water and open spaces are protected and preserved. The environmentally responsible development of clean-burning, Marcellus natural gas reserves represents an effective means for achieving each of these critical priorities – all while creating thousands of good-paying, sustainable jobs in the process. Well-regulated, 21st century natural gas production is helping to spur the kind of positive private sector growth that this region of the country has desperately needed for years.

“In natural gas, we’re talking about an abundant, domestic, clean-burning energy source. We’re also talking about a fuel source that doesn’t require a 12,000-mile tanker trip to get here. And most important: natural gas is homegrown and produced locally. Key investments into natural gas powered vehicles and public transportation fleets continue to move forward, helping to drive down overall emissions. Natural gas will also continue to play a growing role in delivering affordable electricity for American families and small businesses.

“America’s natural gas revolution is something we believe is certainly worth celebrating – not only on April 22, but on every other day of the year as well.”
